My name is Ben Giesbrecht and I currently live in Vancouver. I like to take photographs, sometimes even with my telephone.
My passion for photography definitely started through snowboarding. We would always go out and explore the streets on a snow day trying to film tricks and shoot photos in unique locations. That really got me into documenting my trips, friends and experiences. Naturally, I made the transition over to other forms of photography. Recently I've been getting more into outdoor portraits and whatever else I find myself doing on any adventures I go on.
Spontaneous is a pretty accurate word to describe it. I love exploring new places, so usually I’ll go out without any idea of what I’m going to find or where I’m going to end up. Often that’s how I find some of the most interesting locations. I rarely use models, any friend that’s around who is patient enough to shoot a few frames with me seems to work best.
I’ve been asked this question a lot lately and even now I struggle to find an answer. I’d like to think that it hasn’t, but with a larger following does comes a bit of added pressure. If anything it gives me an excuse to get outside and explore more.
Perfect day trip? Easy. Thermos full of java, touques, campfires, float upon a lake, climb a mountain, frisbee, dad jokes, catch a fish, cliff jumping and top it all with off $2.95 breakfast for dinner.
