I’m a 35 year old photographer based in the Black Mountains of Wales. I shoot travel and lifestyle commissions for a variety of clients across the UK and abroad.
I was invited by Alex Strohl who runs the digital agency Stay + Wander.
Aside from the incredible landscapes we were travelling through, it was inspiring to work with the other guys on the trip. Working as a photographer can be a little lonely at times, and shooting alongside like minded friends definitely adds to the fun - collaborating on shots, bouncing ideas around etc. Alberta itself was pretty mind blowing, a kind of fantasy land, especially the glacial waters at Lake Lousie and Moraine Lake.
I was struck by how pristine the areas we visited were. Vast swathes of untouched wilderness. The glacier at Mt Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park was pretty overwhelming. The sheer size… the echoing silence punctured only by the mass of creaking ice clinging to the mountain above. It was a humbling experience.
Ironically IG has pushed me in a more analogue direction in that I’ve started shooting more film - 35mm and polaroid. I’m also currently looking for my first medium format camera. I enjoy the process involved with shooting film as much as the aesthetic. Slowing things down so I consider each frame more. This is also helping to inform my digital work which is great.
Movies, music, other photographers, the space around me.
Shooting more personal projects. I want to concentrate on ‘making’ pictures as opposed to ‘taking’ them. I’m also looking forward to meeting and working alongside more photographers I have gotten to know through Instagram.
