Brittany Staddon is a photographer living and working out of Canmore, AB. After a trip to the coast, Brittney shares her photos and stories of the rain, forests and fog of Tofino, British Columbia.
"Despite having visited Vancouver Island several times I had never taken much time to explore it outside of the streets of Victoria. Early one morning in May I packed up my camera and headed to Sombrio Beach hoping to catch the first light. I'll openly admit that being a nearly riser is not something that comes naturally to me - but it was worth the lost hours of sleep. The path to the beach was dotted with light filtering through the trees, at points hung with moss contrasted with slight bends in the path being completely dark and ominous. Eventually the path opened to the beach. The tidal pools with their rich colours and a bald eagle sitting atop a rock in the distance with the signs of campers on the beach waking up made for a calm morning. Later in the week I drove to Tofino. The early spring weather at the south portion of the island was no where to be found in Tofino. Heavy clouds and drizzles instead set the mood. Tofino is a place I now hold close to my heart and hope to return to soon. With trees that echo the grandeur of those in Big Sur and barren beaches of Iceland, Tofino is such a stark difference to the Canada I am accustom to." - Brittany Staddon
